Café Bacacay was named after the little street that is born in Montevideo’s most important opera house, Teatro Solis. In 1995, the interest in creating a new gastronomic style in Montevideo’s Old City, led to reform an old montevidean restaurant, with special emphasis on the aesthetics and the cuisine. The restaurant was erected in an 1844 historical building. This, combined with its international cuisine, made of Café Bacacay a different proposal which changed neighborhood for good.
An exquisite and diverse menu, where meals are served at all times of the day, has made of Café Bacacay a symbol of the neighborhood and the city. So much so, that it now seems that the street was named after the café, which is often used to give foreigners directions: “go along the street of Café Bacacay”
